Heat Pumps
An energy-efficient heat pump can help reduce your energy-costs and environmental impact, while providing reliable home comfort, year-round.
Air source heat pumps tap into the heat that surrounds us in our outdoor air. Simply put, air-source heat pumps extract or reject heat from the outdoor air and use it to heat or cool your home, depending on the season.
Even though heat pumps can extract heat when the outside temperatures are as low as minus 15°C, they work best in conjunction with a supplemental heat source. When the amount of heat extracted is not great enough to maintain the temperature you’ve set, the supplemental source will kick-in and make-up the remainder. This allows you to keep energy bills in check and decrease your impact on the environment, while ensuring your desired temperature will be maintained.
As with furnaces and air conditioners, heat pumps are available in ENERGY STAR® qualified models, meaning they meet or exceed government energy-efficiency standards. For even greater savings, you may consider installing a programmable thermostat. These thermostats have settings that allow you to automatically increase or decrease the temperature in your home depending on the time of day, day of the week, etc.
