Boilers
A condensing boiler is designed to recycle energy that is normally released into the surrounding environment. When gas in the boiler is burnt, a certain amount of water vapour is given off – in this heated vapour, energy escapes. Condensing boilers trap all the heat within the unit, and reuse it.
With a boiler system you can enjoy reliable, consistent temperatures while saving a substantial amount of money on your home energy costs. The higher the annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE), the greater the savings. Residential non-condensing gas boilers sold in Canada are required to have an AFUE rating of at least 80%. For the greatest savings, look for ENERGY STAR® qualified products as they carry an AFUE rating of 85% or higher. Some boilers can even reach ratings of up to 90% or higher!

Many factors must be considered when selecting the right boiler system for your needs. An Air Wave professional can work with you to determine the best system for you, without breaking the bank. And, with a wide-variety of models from top quality manufactures such as Viessmann, Slant/Fin, NTI, Weil-McLain and Knight, you can rest assured you’ll get the most from your investment.
Integrating space and water heating into a single appliance
In many cases, new or renovated houses have reduced space heating loads to the point where it is difficult to justify the expense of a high-efficiency furnace solely to satisfy heating demands. To take advantage of the efficiency potential, it makes sense to combine space heating with other functions, in particular, water heating .
An integrated, high-efficiency space and water heating system can:
- Offer efficiencies of over 90% for both space and water heating.
- Be less expensive than the individual appliances.
- Eliminate the need for multiple exhaust systems.
Other options such as a standard efficiency system or a standard efficiency boiler coupled with an external storage tank also exist, although their efficiency potential is lower. Your Air Wave professional can help determine what will work best for you.
